I see design as a problem-solving discipline. Before I think about what something should look like, I want to know what it needs to do. What does the audience need to understand? What is getting in the way? What deserves emphasis, and what is only taking up space? Sometimes the problem presented at the beginning is not the real problem at all. Finding that difference is part of the work.
A strong design is not a collection of attractive decisions. It is a structure. Every part should support the same idea, from the message and hierarchy to the typography, pacing, imagery, and format. When the underlying logic is right, the work can move across a campaign, a brand, a website, a publication, or an entire system without losing its meaning.
Visual narrative is central to how I think. People do not experience information as a neutral list of facts. They notice, interpret, connect, question, and decide. Design helps shape that sequence. It can reveal relationships, create context, give an idea emotional weight, and make the path through complicated material feel inevitable.
I work quickly and intuitively, but I do not believe the first convincing solution automatically deserves to survive. Good design judgment requires more than the ability to defend an idea. It requires knowing when the defense is sound, when another direction is stronger, and when your own attachment is obscuring the answer. The work is the thing under examination, not the designer’s identity.
That belief shapes how I lead, critique, teach, and collaborate. I ask why. I look for the communication goal behind the preference. I want decisions that can hold up under pressure, not because someone argued for them persuasively, but because they solve the problem better than the alternatives.
I care about design that has consequences. Work that helps people understand, participate, question, organize, connect, or care. The final result should be visually powerful, but “looking good” is not the destination. It is one tool among many. The goal is to make the idea work.Helping people understand why they should care.
